About Afro-Vegan Society
Afro-Vegan Society is a national nonprofit organization with a mission to provide resources and support to help people in marginalized communities transition to vegan living.
Our Mission
The mission of Afro-Vegan Society is to offer information, resources and support to encourage and inspire people in marginalized communities to transition to vegan living.

Our Values
Since people in marginalized communities are often overlooked by those doing vegan advocacy, people in these communities have little or no access to information that would help them to make healthier, kinder, more sustainable choices. Afro-Vegan Society exists to make sure this information is available and accessible to everyone!
What Is Veganism?
Veganism is a way of living that rejects all products of animal use. This includes food products like meat, dairy and eggs. It also includes clothing and other products made from animal fur and skin, household and body care products that were tested for safety on animals, and forms of entertainment that rely on the captivity, food deprivation (for “training”) and abuse of animals, like circuses, zoos and marine parks.

Afro-Veganism
Afro-Veganism is a term that speaks to the experience of being a person of African descent living and interacting in the world as a vegan. It’s built on perspectives that are specific to people with both a shared history of race-based oppression and the current experience of racial inequity. This lens provides Afro-Vegans with an innate understanding of the way oppressive systems operate and a greater desire to reject those systems. Many Afro-Vegans have come to view veganism as both a viable solution to some of the challenges that currently face our communities as well as a vehicle for resisting the systems that are responsible for creating those challenges.
