4 Delicious & Nourishing Smoothie Recipes


Smoothies are an excellent way to get in nutrients from a variety of fruits and vegetables in the form of a drink. If you're new to making smoothies, you may think that they're expensive to make, or that it's complicated to mix the right combinations to make a delicious and nourishing blend. If so, don't worry - Afro-Vegan society is here to help. Here are 4 smoothies that you can make with items that you may already have in your fridge, freezer or pantry.

Golden Smoothie

  • 1 small apple diced

  • 1 orange or 2-3 tangerines

  • 1 cup pineapple chunks

  • 1/2 lemon, juiced

  • 1 carrot, sliced

  • 1/4 tsp ground turmeric

  • 1 Tbsp. flax seeds

  • 1 cup water

Add all ingredients to a blender and blend for 30-60 seconds until smooth. Makes 1-2 servings.




Clean Green Smoothie

  • 2 generous handfuls spinach

  • 1 small apple diced

  • 1 cup diced cucumber

  • 1 stalk celery sliced

  • 1/2 lime, juiced

  • 2 Tbsp. chia seeds

  • 1/2 piece fresh ginger root

  • 1 small handful parsley or cilantro (optional)

  • 1 Tbsp. liquid chlorophyll (optional)

  • 1 1/2 cups water or coconut water

Add all ingredients to a blender and blend for 30-60 seconds until smooth. Makes 1-2 servings.


Beet Berry Smoothie

  • 1 small beet diced

  • 1 cup mixed berries

  • 1 small apple diced

  • 1/2 cup pure cranberry juice

  • 1/2 cup strawberries

  • 2 Tbsp. chia seeds

  • 1 cup water

Add all ingredients to a blender and blend for 30-60 seconds until smooth. Makes 1-2 servings.



True Blue Smoothie

  • 1 cup blueberries

  • 1 small apple diced

  • 1 ripe banana

  • 6 peach wedges

  • 2 Tbsp. sunflower seeds

  • 1 Tbsp. chia seeds

  • 1 1/2 cups plant milk

Add all ingredients to a blender and blend for 30-60 seconds until smooth. Makes 1-2 servings.

Tips

  • Diced apples can be replaced with 1/2 cup unsweetened apple sauce.

  • Water can be replaced with coconut water or chilled unsweetened green tea in all recipes.

  • Sunflower seeds can be replaced with hemp seeds or pumpkin seeds for an excellent source of plant-based protein.
